Our History

Dale and Mary Maus
Dale and Mary Maus
Maus Funeral Home was established in 1971 in Attica, Indiana by Dale Maus. Dale had previously worked at DeSutter Funeral Home in Attica before purchasing the Roemer-Merryman Funeral Home. In 1974, Dale's Son, Robert D. Maus, received his Funeral Director's License and started working with his father at the funeral home.In 1996, Dale Maus passed away and Robert took over the day-to-day operations of both funeral homes. Dale had served the Fountain, Warren, Montgomery and Tippecanoe Counties for over 62 years.

In 1991, Maus Funeral Home expanded by adding a new location in Hillsboro, Indiana. By adding this location, we could better serve the Southern Fountain County community as well as portions of Montgomery and Parke Counties.  Formerly known as Crumley-Williams Funeral Home, this second location was purchased from Halsey Williams. Halsey continues to work for Maus Funeral Home today.

Adding Additional Staff

In 2000 Robert's wife, Valarie Maus, became licensed to sell pre-need for the funeral homes. A year later, Bonnie Childress was hired as a full time secretary and Daryl Whitlow was hired as another licensed funeral director.

Attica Remodeling

In 2005, the casket selection room at our Attica branch was updated to show corner cut caskets. This allows for us to offer a wider selection of caskets as well as a more open floor plan to allow easier access to view all of our available products. We were also able to designate a seperate room for cremation products to better serve families that choose cremation as their final disposition. In 2010 we remodeled our Attica Chapel area. We moved our coffee lounge to the back of our facility and expanded our chapel into the lounge's previous place to allow for more seating at funeral services. At that time, we also changed our carpeting and repainted the chapel.

Hillsboro Remodeling

In 2007, our Hillsboro branch was remodeled to repair some minor damage from water leakage in the roof. The main chapel area had the ceiling raised and walls redone, the entrance area was given a face lift and the selection room was expanded and updated with corner cut caskets. In 2011, we changed the interior decor of our Hillsboro branch by recarpeting and changing some of our furniture.
