Amboy - Arthur G. Bilyeu, 77, formerly of West Point and had been residing in Amboy, Indiana, passed away at his residence in Amboy on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 6:35 a.m.
Art, as he was known to family friends, was born in Lafayette, Indiana on April 13, 1944. He was the son of the late Gerald Eugene and Mary Ellen (Stover) Bilyeu. Art was raised in the West Point community and graduated from Southwestern High School in 1962. He just recently moved to Amboy.
Art worked for General Tel and later GTE, then he retired from Verizon in 1995 after over 30 years being with the phone company. Art later worked for Electricom for 12 years until he retired again.
Art served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  At the time of his honorable discharge he had attained the rank of Private.
Art had attended the West Point United Methodist Church. He enjoyed raising a vegetable garden. As a CB'er he went by the handle "River Rat". He enjoyed the outdoors where he liked to hunt and fish. His family was his pride and joy along with visiting with friends.
On June 26, 1965, Art married Linda Marie Dowell in West Lafayette. Linda just preceded Art in death on October 19, 2021.
Art leaves behind a daughter, Cindy (Jeff) Cade, West Point; two sons, Brian (Shari) Bilyeu, Amboy, IN and Roy (Jenny) Bilyeu, Lafayette; six grandchildren, Levi (Emily) Bilyeu, Melia Bilyeu, Jordanna (Conner) Beidelman, Tyler Bilyeu, Serena Cade and Cassandra "Cassie" Cade; five great-grandchildren, Ivan, Fletcher, Ervin, Riverlin and Everly; a brother-in-law, Robert A. Marsh, West Point. Art was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Etta Rae Marsh.
Friends may call at the West Point United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 23rd from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Russ Alley and Jeff Stedge officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the West Point Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the West Point United Methodist Church.
