Williamsport - Arvin Lynn Bales, 89, Williamsport, passed away in the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 1:25 a.m.
Arvin was born in Attica, Indiana on April 28, 1934. He was the son of the late LeeRoy C. and Grace Lucille (Lindley) Bales. He was raised in Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1952. He later moved to Covington and in 1968 relocated to Williamsport where he has resided, before moving to the Indiana Veterans Home in December of 2023.
After graduation from high school, Arvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a medic for 7 years during the Korean War. At the time of honorable discharge he had attained the rank of HM3 (E-4). After his discharge from the service he began working as a medical assistant in the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette and later in the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, IL. Following his work at the Veterans Home and St. Elizabeth Hospital, Arvin worked first the Metropolitan School District and later for the Attica Elementary School as a custodian until his retirement.
On June 3, 1957, Arvin married Joyce Ann Rush in Attica. Joyce preceded her in death on September 30, 2016.
Arvin leaves his five children, Gary (Aracelia) Bales, Houston, TX; Scott (Lynetta) Bales, Williamsport; Richard (Anne) Bales, Lafayette; Gwendolyn Jernagan, Williamsport and Gail (Dan) Killin, Pine Village; sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Aaron and Armond Bales.
There will be a private family military gravesite service held in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. A celebration of Arvin's life will be held at a later date.
