Lafayette - Barbara Lee (Gates) Kerr, 78, Lafayette, passed away at her residence on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 4:27 p.m. following her failing health.
Barbara was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 17, 1947.  She was the daughter of the late Harry and Virginia May (Engelskirchen) Gates.  Barbara was raised in Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1965.  She later moved to Tippecanoe County and had resided most of her adult life in West Point before later moving to Lafayette.
Barbara formerly worked at Westminster Village in West Lafayette in social services and as an activities director. She later worked in administrative services for Franciscan Health in Lafayette until her retirement.
Barbara was an avid Purdue University and Chicago Cubs sports fan.  She enjoyed following John Force in NHRA drag racing.  She loved being with family and following retirement cared for her mother in her home.  She also doted over her grandchildren.
She leaves behind her three children, Rickey (Angie) Kerr, West Point; Rustey (Jill) Kerr, Mequon, WI and Rodney Kerr, Lafayette; a brother, William (Terry) Gates, Louisville, KY and a sister, Patty (Mike) Cassidy, Lafayette; her seven grandchildren, Lindsey Johnson, Lane Kerr, Riley Kerr, Taylor Kerr, Ethan Kerr, Lyla Kerr and Hope Kerr; a great-granddaughter, Bexleigh Cortez; numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelli Jean Horn; a sister, Carolyn Kloss and two brothers, Jim "J.R." Gates and Rick Gates.
As per Barbara's request, cremation services were accorded her and no formal service is planned.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN   38105-9959.
