Lafayette - Barbara Jean (Davis) Swarner, 90, Lafayette and formerly of Attica and Williamsport, passed away in her home with family by her side, on Monday, January 26, 2026 at 9:29 a.m.
Barbara was born in Stewartsville, North Carolina, on June 30, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Selena Grace (Arrington) Davis. Barbara was raised and educated in Durham, NC for 22 years. While living in North Carolina, she fell in love with a marine by the name of James Winfred Swarner Jr. who was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. They were married on September 12, 1959 in the Williamsport Christian Church. James preceded her in death on November 3, 2012. They moved from North Carolina to Attica, residing there and raising their children for 16 years. James worked for C & D Battery in Attica and was transferred to Perth, Ontario, Canada by the company. Barbara accompanied him to Perth, Ontario, Canada and resided there for 21 years. In 1996, James retired and he and Barbara moved to Williamsport, until his passing in 2012. Barbara then moved to Lafayette in 2014.
Barbara formerly worked for Wampole Pharmaceutical in Perth, Ontario, Canada and later became a Mary Kay consultant.
Barbara was a member of the Sterling Christian Church.
Barbara leaves behind her five children, Wanda (Jim) Martin, Williamsport; Kay Bunch, Lafayette; Bonnie (Robert) Childress, Attica; Shelia (John) Binz, West Lafayette and Calvin "Butch" J. (Terri) Swarner, Otterbein; 11 grandchildren, Mandi (Rusty) Neef, Veedersburg; Nicholas (Keisha) Martin, Hillsboro; Josh Martin, Mahomet, IL; Jason Bunch, Veedersburg; Tasha Reppert, Lafayette; Nathan (Dianne) Childress, Lafayette; Travis (Tiffany) Childress, Attica; Bryce (Laura) Sexton, Fowler; Dallas Swarner, Otterbein; Cody (companion-Candice) Swarner, Earl Park and Samantha (companion-Brandon) Swarner, Lafayette; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Doug (Inge) Davis, Haw River, NC and a sister, Margie Newcomb, Oxford, NC. Barbara was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Troy Childress, a brother, Floyd Davis and two sisters, Doris Burch and Betty Horton.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, January 30th, from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Wildman officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery, near Ambia, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sterling Christian Church, 701 S. Sterling Avenue, Veedersburg, IN 47987.
