Williamsport - Barbara Joanne Thomas, 92 years, went to be with the Lord on July 26, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Dero Thomas, (1928-2013), one great-granddaughter, Amber Marie Puttock (1999-2013), and her brothers Robert, Richard, Donald, Bill, and Larry Mathews. Her brother Thomas Mathews survive.
The daughter of the late David (Bert) and Genevia Courtney Mathews was born on October 5, 1931. Barbara was a graduate of the Class of 1949 of Williamsport High School. Barbara married Austin D Thomas on September 18, 1949; they were blessed to be married for 63 years. Barbara and Austin were long time residents of Williamsport, Indiana, and spent their later years in Bradenton, Florida, with their daughter.
Barbara was a wonderful mother and stayed home taking care of their three children in her early years of marriage. She helped her husband in Williamsport at the Thomas Hometown Market from 1962 through 1971. She worked as a cashier at Hick's Plaza in West Lebanon in the early 70's, then began her enjoyable career as church secretary for the Williamsport Christian Church from 1975 through 1994.
Barbara and Austin had three children, Brenda (Mark) Coates of Bradenton, FL, Kevin Thomas of Attica, Indiana, and Kerry (Karen) Thomas of Queen Creek, AZ. They had six beloved grandchildren, Manda (Justin) Puttock, Brett (Amanda) Coates, Kyle (Stephanie) Thomas, Kristen (Brandon) Sejera, Kathryn (David) Shingler, and Cody Thomas. They had 13 great- grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica on Saturday, August 3rd from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Nathan Kibler officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Williamsport.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsport Christian Church.
