Ambia - Bernie Howard Adkins, 80, (Tab) Ambia, passed away at his home in Tab, with his son, daughter and sister by his side, on Monday, September 8, 2025 at 2:50 a.m.
Bernie was born in Kistler, West Virginia on April 20, 1945.  He was the son of the late Clovis Harold and Minerva Evelyn (Belcher) Adkins.  He was raised in Guyan Valley, WV, graduating from Guyan Valley High School.  He later moved to Pedro, OH and in 1979 moved to Chicago, IL where he worked at U.S. Steel until his department closed in 1981.  He then began working at Pace Industries as a cabinet builder from 1982-1985.  In 1989 he moved to the Tab area and began working at Harrison Steel Castings Company in the housing department where he retired.
Bernie enjoyed fishing and rabbit hunting.  He raised beagle dogs as a hobby.
Bernie was formerly married to Barbara Gay Clay in Guyan Valley, WV on January 10, 1969.
Bernie leaves behind two children Jason Howard Adkins, Chicago, IL and Janet Lee (Daniel Raymond) Dallacosta, Cape Coral, FL; a sister, Merlene Wiley, (Tab) Ambia; four grandchildren, Mary (Jordan) Whatley, Rebecca Dallacosta, Danielle (Kermin) Fortier and Jason Howard Adkins II; five great-grandchildren, Weston Whatley James Smith, T.J. Henry, Leah Henry and Kevin Dallacosta.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold Adkins and two sisters, Sarah Imogene Woodall and Mamie Frances Williams.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Thursday, September 11th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 12th, at 11:00 a.m. with family members sharing memories.  Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery near Ambia.
