Betty L. Hobbs

Williamsport – Betty L. Hobbs, 78, of Williamsport, IN and formerly of Manhattan, IL passed away at IU Health Arnett, Lafayette, IN on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Betty was born in Joliet, IL on December 8, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Arthur H. and Shirley Mae (Schmuhl) Kampe. Betty was raised on a farm near Frankfort, IL and was a 1962 graduate of Peotone High School. She obtained her associates degree at Joliet Junior College before going to work for the Rock Island Railroad as a secretary. She married James Hobbs, son of the late Melvin and Alice Hobbs, on December 2, 1967 in Matteson, IL. They moved to Williamsport in 1990 and were married for 41 years before his death in 2009. Betty was a lifelong homemaker and proud farm wife with a few jobs in food service along the way. As a child, Betty sang on the WLS Radio Show with her father playing the guitar. Her love of country and gospel music continued throughout her life. She participated in many Potomac Goes Country shows and enjoyed watching gospel music shows, especially the Daniel O'Donell Show. She loved to cook, collect cookbooks, watch cooking shows and share her recipes. Mom loved having her family gathered around the supper table and cooking was her expression of love to her family. She was known for her homemade lemonade, deviled eggs, taco salad and taco sauce.

She is survived by two daughters, Victoria (Charles) Rademacher, Alvin, IL; Kathryn (Randal) Dahlman, Manhattan, IL; two sons, Mark (Misty) Hobbs, Medway, OH and Daniel (Amanda) Hobbs, Williamsport; sister, Beverly (Bob) Homerding of Frankfort, IL; seven grandchildren, Rachel (Clay) Heidrick, Ryan Dahlman, Kylie (Ryan) Olson, Abigail Dahlman, Jackson, Jace and Jameson Hobbs; great-grandchildren Cash and Waylynne Heidrick; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Kampe. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Melissa Lanham for her special care of Betty and to Davita Vermilion County (IL), Ona Okuszki, Sue Stutler and the MAC Van for their service, friendship and commitment – they were immeasurable blessings on Betty's journey with kidney dialysis.

A private family service will be conducted with Pastor Rod Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, east of Attica. The family hopes to hold a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, or other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the MAC Van in care of Community Action Program, Inc. of Western Indiana, P.O. Box 188, Covington, IN 47932.
