Betty Jo Mullins, 82, passed away on February 19, 2025, in Lafayette, Indiana. She was born on April 17, 1942, in Albany, Kentucky to Mildred Eileen Cross. Betty dedicated much of her career to serving students at Tarkington Hall at Purdue University where she provided meals with warmth and care. She was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Attica, an active lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary at VFW Post 3318 and the CB Coffee Break Club. On December 23, 1960, Betty married the love of her life, Benton A. Mullins. Together they built a home filled with love and hospitality. Benton preceded Betty in death on February 11, 1995.  She had a passion for tending to her flower garden and took pride in caring for her home. Betty was known for her open-door policy by welcoming everyone without question and for hosting Sunday and holiday gatherings that brought the family together. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often playing cards, or simply enjoying their company. Betty had a unique way of connecting with young people and never met a stranger. She had a love for speed and enjoyed racing down Highway 341 in her 1980 Firebird reveling in every mile. A fan of 1970s rock and roll, she attended concerts with her younger daughters and embraced the music with enthusiasm. Betty held high expectations for education within her family, encouraging her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to pursue schooling and secondary education to secure their futures. She was especially proud when her youngest daughter ran for county council and won. Surviving are her children David Mullins (Shannon), Tammy Grant (Larry), Lori Simmons (Steve), Kelly Carlson (Jason); grandchildren Amanda J. Jean (Nathaniel), Shannon Mullins (fiancée Emily), Benton Tyler Mullins, Benton Grass (Courtney), MacKinze Formulak (John), Mason Grass (Michelle), Samuel Carlson (fiancée Layne), and Jacob Carlson; a special nephew, Christopher Garner, who was like a son to her; step-grandchildren Ryan Grant (Lane) and Seth Grant (Austine), Gauge Simmons (Lea); great-grandchildren Natalee, Emilee, and Benton Jean; Milo Mullins; Brooke Formulak; Ellie Jane Grass; and step great grandchildren Dacey Blizzard, Ashton Grant, Reid Grant, Chesney Grant, Carter Grant, Lincoln Grant, Kennedy Grant, Piper Thomas, Sam Birge, and Jackson Simmons. She is also survived by her siblings Ralph Cross, Joel Cross (Val), and Edith Nash (Jim). Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband Benton A. Mullins; her mother Mildred Eileen Cross; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Betty's legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering support for family will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to share in her life.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, February 28th, from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David Rasner officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Attica.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica High School Band Department or to the charity of one's choice.
