Attica - Bonita "Bonny" Mae Borst, 77, Attica, passed away in the Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 1:08 p.m.
Bonny, as she was known to family and friends, was born in New Windsor, NY on January 24, 1945. She was the daughter of the late Louis Harvey and Hazel Jeanette (Babcock) Borst. Bonny grew up in Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1963. Following graduation Bonny moved to Evanston, IL and began working for the Evanston Review newspaper. She later moved to Miami, FL and began working for the Miami Herald newspaper. While living in Miami she also worked for the Better Business Bureau. She later worked with Lenny Glasser Architectural Firm. Bonny was instrumental in the grant process for the revitalization of South Beach. She later moved back to Attica to be with family.
Bonny was a member of the Attica First United Methodist Church and was in love with the Lord. She worked in the community with the Attica Chamber of Commerce. She assisted with day care services for local families. During the Attica Centennial, Bonny was crowned "Miss Freedom" during the Pageant.
Bonny leaves behind her daughter, Angelena (James) Abernathy; a granddaughter, Aerial Abernathy and her friend Jaidlynn, Lafayette; her four sisters, Brenda (Allan) Hart, Lafayette; Beverly (Dave) Brown, Williamsport; Betty Guerrero, Attica and Bella Daugherty, Plainfield, IN; two brothers, Louis (Melody) Borst, Veedersburg and Lance (Joanne) Borst, Attica; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica on Thursday, June 30th, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Darlene Dehaai officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Bonny was known for her big floppy hats and friends are encouraged to wear their hats during their attendance at the services. Contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defray expenses.
