Attica - Brenda Lee (Dinwiddie) Phillips, 83, Attica, passed away at her residence in Autumn Trace in Attica on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 3:52 a.m. She had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Brenda was born at her residence in rural Wingate, in Montgomery County, Indiana on January 2, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Clark Hatton and Celena Lucille (Myers) Dinwiddie. She was a life resident of Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1958.
Brenda first began working as a secretary at Purdue University. She later became a stay-at-home mother, raising her three children. She later worked as a cook at the Attica Elementary School. Her final career took her to Purdue University where she worked as a cook at Tarkington Hall on the Purdue University campus.
Brenda was a member of the Attica First United Methodist Church. She was active in the church by working in the Thrift Shop of the church. She enjoyed bowling and bowled on several leagues at the Shawnee Lanes near Attica. She was a member of the Shawnee Home Extension Club. Brenda was an avid Purdue University boys basketball fan. She enjoyed watching the birds outside her window at the bird feeder. She liked to listen to audio books from the State library.
Brenda leaves behind her two sons, David (Janine) Phillips, Veedersburg and Doug (Kathy) Phillips, Attica; six grandchildren, Samantha (Brian) Bayless, Waynetown; Weston Phillips, Ashburn, VA; Caleb Phillips, Attica; Lindsay (Ryan) Synesael, Waynesville, MO; Justin (Emily) Phillips, Attica; Sydney (Kyle) Prince, Attica; four great-grandchildren, Alek Bayless, Aubrey Synesael, Jax Synesael and Logan Phillips; a sister, Sherry Hanlin, Carmel, IN; two nieces, Melissa (Jason) Uhrick, Noblesville, IN and Molly Schott, Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Gerard; a sister, Mary Dinwiddie and her companion, Bill Perrin.
As per Brenda's request cremation services were accorded her and a private family gravesite service will be held at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. A special thank you goes out to the staff of Autumn Trace and Elara Caring Hospice for their compassion and care of Brenda. Memorial contributions may be made in Brenda's memory to the Attica Community Foundation.
