Attica - Carl Verhey, 79, of rural Attica, passed away in the Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 4:20 a.m.
Carl was born at home in Attica, Indiana on July 12, 1944.  He was the son of the late Charles and Marie (Fletcher) Verhey.  He was raised in Attica and attended Rob Roy and Shawnee schools.  Carl farmed all of his life, even as a young boy.  He had worked for August Schmid farms.  He also worked at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica.  He later worked at G & S Livestock in Independence where he drove a truck hauling livestock to various states.  He later farmed for 40 years for Paul Gibson and then retired.
Carl enjoyed the outdoors.  He loved to garden, fish and hunt along with skeet shooting and traveling.  He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling.  He was a Christian by faith.
On May 17, 1968, Carl married Mary Jane Smith in Jonesville, VA.  Mary Jane preceded him in death on April 12, 2007.
Carl leaves behind four children, Charles, Clydie, Dennis, Tina and a nephew, who was like a son, Micheal Sr.; eight grandchildren, Arielle, Harley, T.J., Shelby, Kayla, Michael, Hunter, Micheal Jr. and Jacob; five great-grandchildren, Bjorn & Raven Hillard; Ady Jane Purcell; Lawson & Lance Eads; three sisters, Martha Gross, Casey, IL; Elizabeth Wilson, Kansas, IL and Mary Verhey, Montrose, IL.  He was preceded in death by a son, Vincent and two sisters, Irene Sharp and Charlene McKee.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Thursday, February 1st from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Cremation services will follow.
