Attica - Carlos Gonzalez, 93, formerly of Attica and Covington, passed away peacefully in Hickory Creek Assisted Living of Crawfordsville, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 11:21 a.m. following his failing health.

Carlos was born in Hastings, Michigan on August 14, 1931.  He was the son of the late John and Jennie Gonzalez.  Following his birth in Michigan, his parents then took him to Mexico to be raised and educated.  Carlos returned to the United States in 1968 and resided in Veedersburg.  He later moved to Attica and lived there until moving to Covington in 2018.

He worked at Harrison Steel Castings Company from May of 1970 until his retirement in January of 1996.

Carlos formerly attended the Hedrick Church of God and later attended the Marshall Federated Church.  He was a member of the Eagles Lodge # 2596 in Attica.  He was an excellent pool player and enjoyed shooting pool at Sonny's Pool Hall in Attica.  He also enjoyed working in his garden and growing his favorite vegetables- his garden was his pride and joy. From time to time, he liked to fish and play cards with his family.  Family was important to Carlos and he thoroughly enjoyed the time spent going to Turkey Run and Columbia Park in Lafayette and doing family picnics.

Carlos was first married to Soledad "Sandy" Olvera Mendoza on October 12, 1955 in Mexico.  He later married Elizabeth "Betty" Watkins in the Hedrick Church of God.  Betty preceded him in death on December 24, 2017.

Carlos leaves behind his children, Maria (Tony) Blacketer, Covington, IN; Joe (Kelli) Gonzalez, Westfield, IN; Isidra (David) Leak, Lafayette, IN; Alma (William) Brocious, Whitestown, IN; Taly (the late-Danny) Marlatt, Granger, IN; Carlos (Kim) Gonzalez Jr., Carmel, IN; Elizabeth Gonzalez and John Gonzalez; a sister, Carmela and a brother, Andres; 26 grandchildren; 21 greatgrandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Alicia Gonzalez; Danny Marlatt (Son-In-Law); 2 grandchildren (Candice Brown and Christian Brocious); 3 brothers, Victor, Juan and Roberto; and 2 sisters, Maria and Cuca.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, May 2nd from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug Newnum officiating.  Burial will follow in the Rockfield Cemetery, Veedersburg.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Rockfield Cemetery Association. Following the interment in Rockfield Cemetery, family would like to invite guests back to Agave Azul Mexican Restaurant in Covington for a Celebration of Carlos' life.
