Attica – Charles Edward Young, known to most as "Charlie", died at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, December 4, 2020 at his residence.

Charlie was born on December 8, 1918 in Attica. He was the son of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Perry) Young. He lived all of his life in Attica and graduated from Attica High School.

Charlie lived a busy life. He served with the Indiana National Guard from 1935-1938 and later served with the United States Army and Navy. His working career was spent mostly as a driver and lift operator for Public Service Indiana (now known as Duke Energy) in Attica, retiring in 1983. He had also served as an auxiliary officer for the Attica Police Department.

He had many hobbies after retiring that kept him busy. He was a member of the Zorah Shrine and drove a 3 wheeler in parades. He was an active member of the Attica High School Booster Club. There weren't many basketball games you didn't see he and Connie (deceased) managing the ticket table. Many within the community remember Charlie for his machine shop; repairing local's drive shafts and other machine items, as well as sharpening mower blades each summer. He also spent many mornings having coffee with his friends at the local Hoosier Restaurant (now closed) and over the past several years at Crossroads. He could be found there most any mid-morning or dinner time with his friend, Delores.

Survivors include his children, Jacqueline K. Brewer (Frankfort), Phillip M. Young, Sr. (Teresa), Portsmouth, VA; Charles E. Young II (Charlotte), Suffolk, VA; Lloyd R. Young (Christy), Portsmouth, VA; Daniel R. Young (Angie), Hillsboro, IN; Lynn M. Perkins (Brandon), Carmel, IN. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Goldie Young, Chesapeake, VA. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Connie L. (Vestal) Young, two sons Thomas E. Young and Steven Young.

As per Charlie's request, cremation will take place with no services.
