Attica - Charles Raymond Sandhage, 89, Attica and formerly of Hayden, Indiana, passed away in the Autumn Trace Retirement Center, Attica, on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 3:14 p.m.
Charles was born in Hayden, Indiana on April 29, 1933. He was the son of the late Adam Edward and Laura Katherine (Carr) Sandhage. Charles was raised in Hayden and graduated from Hayden High School in 1951. In March of 1952 Charles entered the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on March 16, 1956 and at the time of his discharge he had attained the rank of AL3. Upon returning home from the Navy Charles began farming and was later hired by Cummins in Columbus, Indiana in technical research. He farmed and worked for Cummins for 30 years retiring in 1986.
Charles helped establish the Brown County 4-H Fair. He and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada in their motor home. After moving to Attica in 2010 he became a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
On November 19, 1955 Charles married Coralie J. Thoms in Gardner, KS. Coralie preceded Charles in death on December 24, 2020.
Charles leaves behind his two daughters, Therese (Jeffrey Jones) Sandhage, Columbus, IN and Claudia Jo Sandhage, Rob Roy. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Prewitt and Martha Porter.
As per Charles request cremation services were accorded him and no formal service will be provided.
