Attica - Cheryl Lynn Galvin, 69, of Attica died peacefully at 7:24 pm Thursday in hospice care at Saint Anthony's Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Lafayette.

Cheryl was the only child of the late Richard and Betty (Hipsher) Galvin of Williamsport. She was a 1972 graduate of Williamsport High School and attended Ivy Tech. She was a welcoming presence throughout her career, first at Myers Dental Clinic in Attica, then as a legal assistant at the Michael O'Reilly Law Office in Lafayette, and then as an assistant to the ISTA (Indiana State Teachers' Association) Uniserve Director, Don Thompson for Tippecanoe County Schools. After that office closed, she started working for Robie's Restaurant in Attica, a job which she thoroughly enjoyed because she knew most of the customers. She eventually also went to work at Misty's Bossaer Farms Bakery and Cafe until her health prohibited her from working. Her strength in all those roles was her personality. She was always smiling and greeting people and socializing with them, but still was professional. As a result, she was well-known, greatly loved, and highly valued as someone who got things done.

Cheryl is survived by several cousins, including Rick Sherman of Columbus, Ohio and Mike Hipsher of Pittsboro, both of whom helped care for her over a long illness. Among her other cousins are Peggy Smith of Plainfield, Karen Grimes of Crawfordsville, Larry Hipsher of Veedersburg, and Sharon Calvert of Frankfort. She is also survived by an army of loyal, loving friends. Many of those friends handled day-to-day care for Cheryl so she could remain at home as long as possible while she fought cancer. There are too many to mention, but some of those friends include Wendy Burt, Sharon Ward-Woods, Marsha Brown, Teal Briles, Ann Lawson, Lisa Swanson, and Jeanne Byers. Sherry Brown was with Cheryl at her passing. It's a mark of a life well-lived that Cheryl ended her life on earth with many of the same friends she had when she was five years old.

Visitation at Maus Funeral Home in Attica will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. A private family graveside ceremony is planned. Cheryl will be buried next to her parents at the West Lebanon Cemetery. Cheryl also leaves behind some of her beloved cats, including her main set of paws, Buddy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Paws 'N' Claws no-kill animal shelter at 2466 US Highway 41, Attica, IN, 47918, which will be caring for some of Cheryl's adoptable cats.
