Attica - Cheryl Ann (Crane) Wurtsbaugh, 68, Attica, passed away in the I.U. Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 11:49 p.m. following a short battle with cancer.
Cheryl was born in the Community Hospital in Williamsport, Indiana on August 6, 1956.  She was the daughter of the late Leo "Shorty" F. and Margaret "Peggy" R. (Bowlus) Crane.  Cheryl was raised in Davis Township in Fountain County, attending Davis Township Grade School and graduating from Attica High School in 1974.  While at Attica High School, Cheryl played for the girls varsity basketball team.  Upon graduating from high school she received her Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and began working in the emergency room of the Home Hospital in Lafayette.  She worked for Home Hospital until the new I.U. Health Arnett Hospital opened in 2008 and worked in the emergency room department until her retirement in 2021.
After her retirement she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her new granddaughter, Madelyn Jane Wurtsbaugh.  She enjoyed doing crafts and working in the garden.  For many years she bowled on a bowling league in Lafayette.  She enjoyed photography.  Through the years she developed many friendships and enjoyed the time with her friends at the "fire pit".
Cheryl was first married on May 3, 1980 in Williamsport to Edward Wurtsbaugh.  Together they had a son, Steven Wurtsbaugh who resides with his wife, Kimberly and daughter, Madelyn Jane in Selma, IN.  She later married James E. Napier on October 24, 2007 in Gatlinburg, TN.  James preceded her in death on April 30, 2012.  She has recently been in a relationship with Steve Ray, her companion of the last few years.
She leaves behind her son, Steven and wife Kimberly along with her granddaughter, Madelyn Jane Wurtsbaugh; her companion, Steve Ray of Attica.    She also is survived by a brother, James (Debbie) Crane and a host of friends and colleagues.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica on Thursday, August 22nd from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.  A celebration of Cheryl's life will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 23rd at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Rich Stoll officiating.  Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
