Attica - Clint Herbert "Herbie" Slinker Jr., formerly of Attica and had been residing in Somerset, KY, passed away in the Franciscan Health East Hospital, Lafayette on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 8:20 a.m. with his family by his side.
Herbie, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Louisville, KY on October 3, 1956.  He was the son of the late Clint Herbert "Blue Eyes" and Jo Ann (Burke) Slinker.  Herbie was raised in Attica and attended Attica High School.  The third of seven children, he was raised with values of love for country, family and community.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1973 and served the majority of his naval career in Virginia Beach/Norfolk,Virginia, retiring in Pax River, Maryland on November 30, 1994, attaining the rank of Aviation Structural Mechanic First Class.
Herbie served in the American Legion, Forty & Eight, as well as the VFW Post 3318 as past Post Commander.  One of his big loves was playing bingo at the 27 Bingo Hall in Somerset, KY.  He had a big heart, never asking for anything in return.  He was a pillar in the Slinker family, the Fountain County community and the Somerset, Kentucky community.  He was an advocate for Veterans rights and benefits, and driving with his dogs, Pebbles, Tater and Oreo.
He leaves behind two sons, Kevin (Angela) Slinker, Veedersburg and Steven Slinker, Somerset, KY; companion, Brenda Pettery, Kingman; three brothers, Jerry (Alyssa) Slinker, Hillsboro and Brett (Vicki) Slinker, Lafayette; Robert (Cybil) Slinker, Marion, SC; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; many great people he was glad to call friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lois Diane Britt; two brothers, Peter Eugene and David Ray Slinker; a nephew, Denny "Dootle" Britt and a great-niece, Carlie Slinker.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Thursday, May 28th, from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Jordan officiating.  Burial with military honors will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the Wounded Warriors.
