Otterbein - Constance Carol (Shoaf) Lemming, 89, Otterbein, passed away in the Creasy Springs Legacy Health Campus, Lafayette, with her family by her side, on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 9:49 a.m.
Carol, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Tippecanoe County, Indiana on December 12, 1935.  She was the daughter of the late Eugene Raymond and Constance Irene (Talbert) Shoaf.  Carol has lived in rural Otterbein most of her life, graduating from Pine Village High School in 1953.
Carol worked as a baker for Purdue University.  She worked in Fowler Courts, Earhart and Hillenbrand residence halls at the university for 32 years.  She retired at Purdue in 1998.
Carol was a member of the Armstrong United Methodist Church.  She was a member of the Adams Modern Homemakers.  She enjoyed collecting bells and always had them on display at her home.  She also liked to knit.  She enjoyed spending time watching her hummingbirds out her window. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all love her baking skills, but especially her chocolate chip cookies.  She would keep them on hand in her freezer for their visits to her home.
On August 9, 1953, Carol married Morris L. Lemming in her parents home in Warren County.  Morris preceded her in death on December 26, 2014.
Carol leaves behind her children, Randy Irene (David) Sturgeon, Oxford; Ricky Ray (Jennifer) Lemming, Bismarck, ND and Brenda Lee (Dick) Meador, Attica; a daughter-in-law, Anita (Craig) Miller, Roachdale;  eight grandchildren, Brad (Heidi) Sturgeon, Brandy (John) Cain, Matthew (Brooke) Lemming, Robin (Max) McGrew, Kari (Chris Feeney) Lemming, Reannon Meador, Josh (Jessica) Meador and Reggie (Brandi) Meador; seventeen great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Camryn & Carson Cain; Thomas & Chase Lemming; Vayda, Marshall & Abner McGrew; Levi Holliman; Shaelyn, Evan, Evie, Kendall & Millie Meador; Jude, Grey & Lennon Sturgeon.  She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Leon Lemming; two great-grandsons, Jonah Sturgeon and Lincoln McGrew;  three sisters, Doris Terry, Maxine Shoaf and Annabel Selleck along with two brothers, Paul Shoaf and Max Shoaf.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, February 14th, from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor David Boyd officiating.  Burial will follow in the Armstrong Chapel Cemetery, near Green Hill.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Armstrong Chapel Church or the Franciscan Hospice.
