Newtown - David "Dave" Lee Mitchell, 79, Newtown, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
Dave, as he was known to family and friends,  was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on December 21, 1943. He was the son of the late Daniel Leslie and Helen Marie (Eichelberger) Mitchell. He was a life resident of Newtown, graduating from Richland Township High School in 1962. He had attended Purdue University.
Dave worked as a general contractor with his father in Mitchell Construction Company. He was known for his meticulous work in home construction and wood working. He also enjoyed helping with farm work with Mitchell Farms in Montgomery County.
He was a 50 year member of the Richland Masonic Lodge and upon its closure transferred his membership to the Hillsboro Lodge # 385 F. & A.M. He enjoyed woodworking and attending car shows.
On November 24, 1962, Dave married Frances Lucille "Lucy" Hoovermale in Mellott, Indiana. Lucy preceded him in death on May 25, 2011.
Dave leaves behind three children, Cindy (Scott) Krout, Newtown; Howard Mitchell, Indianapolis and Jeannine (Rick) Malone, Crawfordsville; a brother, William (Arlene) Mitchell, Attica; three granddaughters, Lauren (Spencer) Marxmiller, Megan (Alex) Schrader and Kelly (Bryan) Davidson; two great-grandsons, Owen & Lane Marxmiller. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
A memorial gravesite service will be held in the Newtown Cemetery on Thursday, January 12th, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tony Thomas officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Newtown Cemetery Association.
