Terre Haute - Deborah A. Barnhart, 69, formerly of Attica and had been residing in Terre Haute, passed away in the Union Hospital, Terre Haute on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 2:00 a.m.
Deborah was born in Attica, Indiana on September 13, 1951. She was the daughter of the late Keith Edwin and Elizabeth Ann (Rogers) Barnhart. She was a 1969 graduate of Attica High School. She went on to receive her BS degree in Nursing from Indiana State University and later her Master's Degree in Nursing from the University of Colorado.
She began her teaching career in the College of Nursing at Indiana State University in 1982 and went on to serve students in the first online Baccalaureate Completion program in the College. She completed her career at Indiana State University as an academic advisor in the University College. She was instrumental in the establishment of the McKee Center for Nursing, which continues to support nursing student' success. Former students and colleagues remember Ms. Barnhart for her enthusiastic and expert mentoring. Generations of nurses at Indiana State University have been influenced by Ms. Barnhart and her legacy will live on through them.
Ms. Barnhart leaves behind her dear friend, Dr. Suzy Fletcher, PHD, Terre Haute; close friends, Rita Flak, Mary Ann Baylass, Shinbo Sugiura and many more friends, neighbors and colleagues,
Ms. Barnhart enjoyed traveling and enjoyed the time spent in Michigan during the summers. She loved her pets and flowers. She was very active in charities.
A memorial gathering will take place at a later date in Terre Haute.
