Attica - Donald "Don" Lee Rater, 90, of Attica, passed away in the Majestic Care of Lafayette, on Monday, February 24, 2025 at 4:00 a.m.
Don was born in Attica, Indiana on August 2, 1934.  Don was the son of the late Homer and Ruth (Kirts) Rater.  He was a life resident of Attica, attending Logan School.
After school, Don first began working for Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica. For many years, Don later worked with his brother, Elvin Rater at the sawmill east of Attica and farmed.  His last job was with C & D Battery in Attica until his retirement in 1996.
Don was a life member and "Golden Eagle" of the Eagles Lodge # 2596 of Attica.  He enjoyed coon hunting and butchering.  For many years he assisted Russell Marks in training and transporting pacer and trotter horses.  Don was an avid Purdue sports fan.
On September 17, 1954, Don married Orlena E. Weaver in Attica.
He leaves behind his wife, Orlena of 70 years along with their children, Rick (Sherry) Rater, Lafayette; Mary Roe, Lafayette; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Rater, Attica; five grandchildren, Ben (Meagan) Rater, Brownsburg, IN; Craig (Cassi) Rater, Attica; Destiny (Jesse) Peters, Lafayette; Toby (Alicia) Rater, Independence and Lee (Mary) Rater III, West Point; fifteen great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.  Don was preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Rater Jr; a grandson, Curtis Roe; a granddaughter, Crystal Marsh; a great grandson, Braxton Peters; a brother, Elvin Rater; a step brother, Bob Jones; four sisters, Frances "Tot" Kirts, Betty Wein, Jessie Sipes and Maxine Lister.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Thursday, February 27th from 11:00 a.m. until the Eagle Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 1:15 p.m. with Rev. David Rasner officiating.  Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.  Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church entrance fund.
