Attica - Donald "Don" Lee Rater Jr., 64, Attica passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 7:27 p.m.
Don was born in Danville, Illinois on May 23, 1958. He was the son of Donald Lee and Orlena Ellen (Weaver) Rater Sr. of Attica. Don was a life resident of Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1976. He went on to become a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local 668. He retired from IBEW after 30 years of service.
Don was a member of the Attica Free Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors where he liked to fish, camp, go boating and hunt mushrooms. He was an avid Chicago Bears football fan and Chicago Cubs baseball fan. He loved his family and enjoyed the time spent with them and his grandchildren.
On May 24, 1980, Don married Joyce Ann Bryant in the Attica Free Methodist Church.
Don leaves behind his wife, Joyce of 43 years along with two sons, Toby (Alecia) Rater, Otterbein and Donald Lee (Mary) Rater III, West Point; a brother, Rick (Sherry) Rater, Lafayette and a sister, Mary Roe, Lafayette; four grandchildren, Sabrina (Levi) Laws, Tyler Rater (Alyssa Nixon), Jacobi Rater and Scarlett Rushin; two great-grandsons, Karson and Waylen along with his parents.  He was preceded in death by two nephews, Curtis Roe and Braxton Peters.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Tuesday, January 17th, from 5:00 p.m. until the memorial service time at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Billy Scroggins officiating.
