Kingman - Donald  Dean McDonald, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at  9:10 p.m. in the Hickory Creek of Crawfordsville healthcare facility following an extended illness.
Donald was born in Williamsport, Indiana on November 27, 1946.  He was the son of the late Harley ad Harriett (Atkinson) McDonald.  Donald was raised in Williamsport, graduating from Williamsport High School in 1965.  He later attended Chicago Technical Institute and studied electronics.
Donald had resided in Veedersburg for several years and more recently in rural Kingman since 1994.
Donald formerly worked at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica.  He later worked for Nurcor Steel in Crawfordsville where he retired out of the maintenance department.
Donald was an avid ham radio operator, talking with people around the world.  He even became good friends with several of his contacts.  When he was able, Donald enjoyed putting out a large vegetable garden and sharing it with his neighbors. He enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife that ventured onto his property.
Donald met his wife through a fortunate twist of fate.  Phyllis, his wife, was transplanted to Attica from Kentucky, where she was raised.  On September 23, 1967, Donald married Phyllis Jean Ferguson in Attica.    They have enjoyed 56 years of marriage.
Donald leaves behind his wife, Phyllis of 56 years along with a son, Brian (Tina) McDonald, Delaware, OH; a daughter-in-law, Trina McDonald Hart, Indianapolis; Grandchildren, Tyler & Ryan McDonald, Indianapolis; Katelyn McDonald, Connersville, IN; Dylan McDonald, Delaware, OH.  As an only child, Donald inherited brother-in-laws, Robert (Brenda) Ferguson, Greensburg, KY; Gary Ferguson, Munfordsville, KY and Jerry Ferguson, Warsaw, MO; a sister-in-law, Janice Ferguson, Attica; several nieces and nephews along with three cousins on his mother's side, Paul, David and Dale Roberts.  Donald was preceded in death by a son, Stuart Lee McDonald and his parents.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Saturday, April 27th from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Derrick Jackson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.  Memorial contributions may be made to the local food pantries or to the New Century Church of Veedersburg.  A special thanks to two special hospice workers who greatly assisted in keeping Donald home for most of his illness.  Our thanks go out to Amy Wheeler and Karley Lawman of Southern Care Hospice. Also thanks go out to family church members and friends in the area that helped us a significant amount of the time.
