Attica - Donald Vernon McGinnis, 97, Attica, passed away in the Franciscan Health East Hospital, Lafayette, on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 9:15 a.m.
Donald was born in Medaryville, Indiana on April 15, 1928.  He was the son of the late Orval V. McGinnis and Helena (Wagner) McGinnis Walsh. Donald was raised in Medaryville and at the age of 8 moved west to Oregon.  At the age of 14, Donald struck out on his own to see the world.  He later lived in California and entered the U.S. Army in San Francisco, California on October 3, 1946.  He attained the rank of Private and was honorably discharged on June 3, 1947.  Donald then traveled around the country working as a handyman.  He later relocated to Attica in 2006.  While living in Attica he adopted several cats and his favorite companion, his dog.
Donald leaves behind a first cousin, Sandra Holtman, Lafayette.  His sister, Orvinia McGinnis preceded him in death.
A memorial gravesite service will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica, on Monday, January 5th at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Daniel Jordan officiating.
