Hillsboro - Dorothy G. (Crowder) Scott, 93, Hillsboro, passed away in Hickory Creek, Crawfordsville, on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.
Dorothy was born in the former Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville, Indiana on October 25, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Grover Brookshire and Bessie Viola (Davidson) Crowder. She was raised in the Hillsboro area, graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1943. She had lived for ten years in Wallace before returning to Hillsboro and residing there for over 50 years.
Dorothy was a homemaker, but worked from 1943-1946 for Indiana Bell as a telephone operator.
Dorothy was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and was baptized in 1931. She was active in the United Methodist Women and attended the WWU Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Fern Chapter # 194 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #188. She enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, cooking and collecting bells.
On March 10, 1946, Dorothy married Jesse Edward Scott in Veedersburg, IN. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1989.
She leaves behind eight children, Mary Ann Lynch, Crawfordsvile; Zina Lou (Jon) Foxworthy, Veedersburg; Sue Beth Carlson, Hillsboro; William Edward (Deena) Scott, Bloomingdale, IN; Alan Lee (Abby) Scott, Florida; Sally Jo (Chris) Taylor, Newtown; David Jay (Connie) Scott, Mellott and Daniel Ray Scott, Crawfordsville; a sister, Marihelen Niskala, Schoolcraft, MI; a sister-in-law, Alma Crowder, Crawfordsville; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; a niece and four nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michele Foxworthy; a brother, John H. Crowder and a nephew.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, on Saturday, June 15th, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Boris Posso officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillsboro United Methodist Church.
