Eddie D. Whitehead, 79, of Attica, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, surrounded by family and friends in the comfort of his home just as he wished.
Eddie was born on April 10, 1947, in Bald Knob, Kentucky, to the late Zora and Thurston Whitehead. From those humble beginnings, he built a life defined by hard work, love for family, and a deep gratitude for the simple joys of each day.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Eddie spent most of his career doing piece work at Harrison Steel casting co in Attica, Indiana, until his retirement due to his health decline. He took great pride in his work and in the life he created for those he loved.
Eddie was blessed with a remarkable second chapter after receiving a double lung transplant, an extraordinary gift that gave him 13 more years filled with laughter, love, and precious time with his family. His loved ones wish to share their deepest gratitude for the selfless organ donor who made those precious years possible.
Eddie had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and for fellowship. He was an avid golfer who loved spending time on the course, and a devoted Kentucky Wildcats fan who rarely missed watching a basketball game. He enjoyed simple pleasures: playing corn hole and lawn games, fishing, roasting hotdogs over an open fire, listening to gospel and country music from his garage while tinkering, and spending countless evenings around the table playing cards with family for hours. He enjoyed attending the various activities of all his grand kids and great grand kids. These moments, rich with laughter and love, are the memories his family will hold closest to their hearts.
On December 10, 1966, Eddie married the love of his life, and as he fondly called her, his "woman"Beatrice Slaven of Oneida, Tennessee. Together, they shared nearly six decades of unwavering love and partnership, building a strong and beautiful family that was Eddie's greatest pride and joy. She survives him.
Eddie was a devoted father to his four children: Greta Brown (Moe), Theresa Pluimer (Todd), Eddie Whitehead Jr., and Samantha Joy (Jason) all of whom survive him.
He was a proud and loving Papaw to Brittany Brown-Davis (Shawn), Karissa Pluimer (Aidan), Luke Pluimer, Ariel Whitehead, and Aiden and Avery Joy.
He was also a cherished Pap Pap to his three great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Pippa, and Georgia Davis.
Eddie's greatest joy in life was simply being with his family and creating precious memories. His legacy of love, perseverance, and strength lives on in all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A graveside service to celebrate Eddie's remarkable life will be held on Thursday, April 23rd  at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Ron Geyer officiating, at Riverside Cemetery in Attica, Indiana.
