Attica - Edith Mae (Cross) Nash passed away on August 31, 2026 at her home in Attica with her family by her side.
“Edie”, as she was known to her friends and family, was born on June 24, 1950 in Burkesville, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Mildred Eileen Cross. Edie's mother passed when she was 7 and she was raised by her Grandparents, Joe Dewey and Mary Hester Cross. After which, Edie moved to Attica at 15 and attended Attica Jr.-Sr. High school. Edie would go on to work at Warren County Head Start as a teacher. She later opened her home and started a baby and child care service in Attica until 2019. She helped cater birthdays, anniversaries and graduations. She became well known for the cakes that she baked. On March 16, 1990 she married James Nash in Williamsport. At the time of her passing, Edith and James were together 47 years. She became an active member of the V.F.W. Womens Auxiliary 3318 where she was a past president and becoming an Officer in the American Legion post 52. She was a former member of the Attica Eagles Lodge 2596 and Moose Lodge 1482. Edie was a consummate homemaker and she and James never knew a child or family that was a stranger. James and Edith would go on to raise a son, Christopher L. (Sarah) Garner of Vero Beach, Florida and a daughter, Lorrie (Chris) Reifel of Attica. Edie is survived by her brothers; Ralph Cross and Joel (Val) Cross. She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Mullins. She also leaves behind nieces; Tammy (Larry) Grant of Attica, Lori (Steve) Simmons of Vero Beach, Florida and Kelly (Jason) Carlson of Attica. Grandchildren; Mary Elizabeth Garner, Emmy Lane Garner, Christopher “Petey” Reifel and Kristopher (Stacy Grimmett) Wilson of Attica. Great Grandchildren; James Wilson and Tyson Laughner. As well as many great-grand nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a nephew, David W. Mullins. Visitation for Edith will be held at the Maus Funeral Home in Attica, Indiana on Thursday, September 3rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a service being held at 7 p.m. with Chaplain Clint Fink officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions will benefit the Attica Consolidated School Corp Student Supplies Fund, which helps get school supplies to students in need.
