Williamsport - Edward Lee Watkins, 91, Williamsport, passed away in the Franciscan Health East Hospital, Lafayette, on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 11:11 a.m.
Ed was born in Williamsport, Indiana on December 3, 1930. He was the son of the late Beverly George and Opal Lucille (Hamblen) Watkins. Ed was a life resident of Williamsport, graduating from Williamsport High School in 1948. Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 during the Korean War. At the time of his honorable discharge he had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and had earned five battle stars.
Ed formerly worked at ALCOA in Lafayette for over 40 years, retiring in 2000.
Ed was a life member of the V.F.W. Post # 3318 of Attica and was active in the Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge # 2596, Moose Lodge # 1482 and the American Legion Post 52 all of Attica. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping along with hunting mushrooms. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and scratching off lottery tickets at the V.F.W.
On July 3, 1978, Ed married Lucille (Muse) Watkins in Williamsport, IN. Lucille preceded Ed in death on December 16, 2011.
Ed leaves behind his sister, Joan Grose, Grandview, IN; three nephews, Joel Watkins, Las Vegas, NV; Barry (Kate) Watkins, Los Angeles, CA and Greg (Loran) Watkins, Zionsville; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Watkins, San Diego, CA; step grandchildren, Bobby (Wendy) Ransom and Amanda (Chris) Lynn; Step -Great Grandchildren, Autumn (Alan) Madary with their children (step great great-grandchildren) Addy Picket, Avery Picket and Alanna McKinney; Step great-granddaughter, Alexis (Justin) Brummett with their children (step great great-grandchildren) Kaden and Gavin Brummett; Step great-granddaughter, Hunter (Drew) Wilson with their (step great great-grandson) Drake Wilson. He was preceded in death by two step daughters, Mary Lynn Ransom and Myrna Foster along with a brother, Richard Watkins of San Diego.
A memorial gravesite service with military honors will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica, on Sunday, April 3rd at 1:00 p.m. with the American Legion Chaplain Dan Jordan and the U.S. Army, American Legion Post # 52 and V.F.W. Post # 3318 performing services.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
