Attica- Edwin "Ed" Harley Franklin, 92, Attica, Passed away in the Carle
Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 5:17am.
Ed, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Danville, Illinois on
May 9, 1930. He was the son of the late Harley John and Minnie Gladys
(Odam) Franklin. He was raised in Danville, graduating from Danville High
School in 1949.
In 1952 he entered the military service and served in the US
Army from 1952-1953 during the Korean War. At the time of his honorable
discharge, he had attained the rank of Captain. Following his military
service, he entered the University of Illinois and received his BS degree in
Geology in 1957. He went on and received his Master's degree in Geology
from the University of Nebraska in 1958. Ed was instrumental in starting a
geological summer camp for students at the University of Illinois.
Ed worked as a petroleum geologist with the Exxon Petroleum Company.
He first worked with Creole Petroleum in Venezuela from 1960-1969. He
later served in Libya in 1969 and later in Sydney, Australia and England with
Exxon Oil Company. He amassed a service of 25 years for the oil companies.
On September 24, 2014, Ed married Nancy Richardson. He has two step
sons Charles L. Richardson and Bryant A. Richardson (Samantha). He has 5
grandchildren, Quentin L. Richardson, Savannah J. Lynch, Savanna R.
Richardson, Xavier C. Richardson and Milah R. Richardson.
Ed loved playing board games with his grand kids and doing word search
puzzles in his free time.
Ed was preceded in death by his late wife Alison Reppert whom he married
in 1966. Ed's brother Allen John Franklin also precedes him in death.
As per Ed's request, cremation services were accorded him with no formal services planned at this time.
