Attica - Elston Howard, 91, Portland Arch, passed away at his residence on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 6:32 p.m. following his failing health.
Elston was born at home in Attica, Indiana on September 5, 1930. He was the son of the late Archie P. and Victoria (Dewey) Howard. Elston was a life resident of Attica. He attended school in West Point. Elston worked as a mechanic for Myers Kawasaki in Attica and also worked as a truck driver. He also was also a diesel mechanic for several years.
Elston was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post # 3318 of Attica; life member of the American Legion Post # 52 of Attica; member of the Moose Lodge # 1482 of Attica and a member of the Eagles Lodge # 2596 of Attica. He along with his brothers spent many a day on the Wabash River where they enjoyed fishing and shelling. He enjoyed boating up and down the Wabash with family. He liked to ride his Kawasaki motorcycle. He also enjoyed hunting. He was a good cook and liked to treat family and friends to a fish fry at times.
He was formerly married to Madonna Fairchild on March 28, 1959 in Attica.
Elston leaves behind a son, Jerald "Jerry" (JoAnn) Howard, Covington; two daughters, Marsha Kay (Donald) Turner, Lebanon, IN and Julie Marie Buckner, Veedersburg; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Arthur, Russell, Wesley, Victor, Archie and Emerson Howard along with five sisters, Alma Hutson, Beatrice Collier, June Kiger, Virginia Siewert and an infant, Elvira Howard.
Friends may be received at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Tuesday, August 30th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 31st at 11:00 a.m. with Major David L. Biggs, of the Salvation Army, officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
