Attica - Esther L. (Pearson) Martin Conklin, 98, Attica, passed away in the Williamsport Health & Rehabilitation on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 1:20 p.m.
Esther was born near Independence in Warren County, Indiana on April 12, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Harold Milford and Irene Amanda (Watkins) Pearson. She was raised in Warren County and attended Williamsport High School. She later moved to Attica in 1961.
She was first married to J. Franklin "Frank" Martin on December 31, 1944 in Pence, IN. Frank preceded her in death on March 10, 1977. She later married Bob Conklin on June 18, 1982 in Kokomo, IN. She moved to Kokomo and resided there until Bob's passing on May 1, 1998. She then moved back to Attica in 1998 to reside near family.
Esther was a cook in various restaurants in the area. She also worked as a hostess at the Attica Hotel in the 60's. Esther and her husband Frank, owned and operated Esther's Boutique in Tipton Hills Shopping Center until her retirement.
Esther was a member of the Pence United Methodist Church and served on the Ladies Aid of the Church as President. She was a member and Past President of the American Legion Post in Kokomo. She was a member and Past President of the Jordan Township Home Demonstration Club. In later years she learned to play golf and the very first time she played golf, scored a hole-in-one.
Esther leaves behind two sons, Jim (Jeanne) Martin and Steve (Debbie) Martin, both of Attica; four grandchildren, Trystan Martin, Commerce City, CO; Tonya (Michael) Merriman, Parrish, FL; Jason (Ashley) Martin, San Antonio, TX and Megan (Cory) Reynolds, Williamsport; seven great-grandchildren, McKauley, Taylor, Nathan, Aubrey, Parker, Peyton and Zachary; a great great grandson, Zeplyn and his mother, Ashley Martin; two sisters, Shirley Kay Schnelle, Independence and Linda Fisher, Florida. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lena Thomas and Dortha Craig; a brother, Lawrence E. Pearson and a great-grandson, Jacob Martin.
Friends will be received at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, October 20th, from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the White Horse Christian Center, 1780 Cumberland Avenue, West Lafayette, IN 47906.
