Lafayette - Evelyn Marie (Foster) Chinn, 95, Lafayette, passed away in the St. Mary Healthcare Center, Lafayette, on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 9:55 a.m.
Evelyn was born in Hillsdale of Vermillion County, Indiana on August 12, 1927. She was the daughter of the late William Edgar Foster and Sarah Matilda (Ayers) Foster McMasters. Evelyn was raised in Hillsdale and attended school in Hillsdale until her senior year and she moved to Attica, graduating from Attica High School. She lived in Attica in the 1940's until moving to the Lafayette area where she has resided for most of her life.
Evelyn worked as a secretary for the Area Four Council on Aging in Lafayette for 12 years.
Evelyn enjoyed crocheting, reading, sewing and working sudoku puzzles.
On February 25, 1946 Evelyn married Kenneth Victor Chinn in Covington, Indiana. Kenneth preceded her in death on March 10, 1972.
Evelyn leaves behind four daughters, Rosemary Overman, Lafayette; Vickie (Michael) Stevenson, Tucson, AZ; Julia Kay (John) Boyce, Lafayette and Brenda (John) Brummett, Stockwell, IN; four sons, Paul (Pam) Chinn, Rockville, IN; Samuel Chinn, West Lafayette; David (Kathy) Chinn, Lafayette and Gregory (Missy) Chinn, Delphi, IN; a sister with whom Evelyn helped raise in the home, Karen (Vernon) Smith, Grantville, PA and a brother, Gordon (Martha) Foster, Attica; two half-sisters, Susan Bushell, Peoria, IL and Sandy Houston, Creve Coeur, IL; 16 grandchildren, Joe LaVita, Brad Overman, Troy (Chonmaly) Stevenson, Richard (Jessica) Chinn, Ginger (Denton) Begishe, Nick (Jenni) Chinn-Sanders, Sally Hawkins, Nathan Chinn, Samantha Chinn, Logan Chinn, Jesse Chinn, Neal Brummett, Brooke Brummett, Christopher Brummett, Cassie Chinn and Kenny Chinn;9 step grandchildren, Zach (Bridget) Horn, Sara (Taka) Sakamato, Gage Hoskins, Nick Stacy, Cari Pelka, Kenzie Clark, Jake Hicks, Virgil Hicks and Lucy Hicks; 25 great-grandchildren; a nephew, Jerry Foster, with whom Evelyn helped raise in the home. She was preceded in death by four sons, Mike, Bryan, John and Ronald Chinn; two grandsons, Clay Chinn and Dustin Boyce; a brother, Edward Foster along with three sisters, Louise Stepan, Rosella Conte and Betty Gayler.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Wednesday, September 7th, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Fields officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
