It is with profound sadness and deep love that the family of Francis Dale Oteham announces his peaceful passing on June 28, 2026, at his cherished home in Saint Cloud, Florida. Born on July 17, 1938, in Attica, Indiana, Francis lived a life defined by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering devotion to the people he loved.
Francis was the beloved son of Mary Luella and Edmund Oteham, and brother to Joan Oteham Tucker and Robert Oteham, all of whom preceded him in death. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 40 years, Carol (Plunkett) Oteham, with whom he built a life filled with joy, partnership, and countless treasured memories.
He is survived by his children: Sandra (Steve) Beeler of Wildwood, Florida; Stephen (Marti) Oteham of Battle Ground, Indiana; and Laura Oteham of Titusville, Florida. He was also a proud and loving stepfather to Brent (Donna) Veldhuizen of West Lafayette, Indiana; Heidi (Aaron) Riegle of Attica, Indiana; and Nathan (Rebecca S.) Veldhuizen of Colorado Springs, Colorado. His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life.
A proud graduate of Attica High School, Francis played trumpet in the school band and carried his love of music throughout his life along with racing and rebuilding cars in his father's Edmund welding shop. He later earned certifications in plumbing, which paved the way for a distinguished career with the Indiana Gas Company in Lafayette, Indiana. Rising from service specialist to Field Supervisor, Francis became known not only for his expertise but also for his gift as a teacher—sharing his knowledge of natural gas installation and safety with clarity, patience, and enthusiasm.
Francis's passion for life extended far beyond his professional accomplishments. He was a dedicated 4-H leader, guiding young people in dog training and livestock care at the Tippecanoe County Fair. His dedication to the community also extended to volunteering as a scout leader for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He owned a Juke Box business, worked part-time at Sears in West Lafayette, and after retiring in 1999, continued to brighten the days of customers and coworkers as a part-time sales representative.
His hobbies reflected his creativity and zest for life. A skilled woodworker, Francis crafted beautiful pieces that brought joy to many. He loved square dancing, family gatherings, and traveling across the United States. Some of his happiest moments were spent camping with loved ones, exploring Disney and SeaWorld parks, and wandering through food festivals and farmers markets.
Francis was known for his kindness, compassion, and remarkable ability to connect with anyone he met. His humor, his love for his family, and his affection for his dogs were defining parts of who he was. His life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and generosity—one that will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
A Celebration of Life will be held at at Riverside Cemetery, Attica,  Indiana, where family and friends will gather to honor a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. The gravesite service will be held on September 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
Though Francis has departed this world, his spirit remains in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May his legacy of kindness, joy, and love continue to guide us as we remember the extraordinary man he was.
