Covington - Fred Thomas Rayburn, 86, Covington, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 10:00 p.m. in the Fountain Springs of Covington.
Fred was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 10, 1937. He was the son of the late Kenneth Theodore and Gladys Marie (Wilson) Rayburn. Fred was raised in Covington where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball and track at Covington High School, graduating in 1955.
Fred farmed in Shawnee Township all of his life. He served on the TIPMONT REMC Board for several years. His passions include boating, attending Purdue sporting events and following his children and grandchildren in their sports activities. Fred was a race car enthusiast and enjoyed racing at Chase Race Track near Boswell. He was named "Rookie of the Year" in 1992. He also enjoyed traveling.
Fred was first married to Rosalie (Johnson) Bowlus on June 17, 1956 in the State Line United Methodist Church. He later married Linda (Woodrow) Chilcote on August 9, 1971 in the Benson Chapel near Covington.
Fred leaves behind his wife, Linda of nearly 52 years along with four children, Kathy (Chuck) Kasubjak, Fishers, IN; Fred "Tom" (Kim) Rayburn, Jr., Attica; Steve Rayburn, Williamsport and Karen (Eric) Roberts, Indianapolis, IN; nine grandchildren, Amanda "Mandy" Marie (Kerry) Kasubjak Illg, Jason Charles Kasubjak, Ryne Thomas (Brittany) Rayburn, Steffi Christine (Ben) Anderson, Shea Kenzie Rayburn, DeeAnn Nicole (D.J.) Jensen, Dr. Brittany (Tim) Rayburn Bertsch, Gabrielle "Gabby" Roberts and Sophia Roberts; ten great-grandchildren, Carter Marie Illg, Parker Christiana Illg, Beckett Rayburn, Brooks Rayburn, Sam Anderson, Mylo Anderson, Deklon Jensen, Dawsyn Jensen, Teagan Bertsch and Tatum Bertsch. Fred was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley J. Cain.
A private family service will be held at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with burial to follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the charity of one's choice.
