Attica - Frederick "Doc" E. Wolfe, 91, formerly of Attica and had been residing at the George Ade Memorial Healthcare Center in Brook, IN, passed away in the center on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 4:15 a.m.
Doc, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Attica, Indiana on July 14, 1931. He was the son of the late George T. and Sylvia (Stroup) Wolfe. He was a life resident of Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1949. Doc enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean War. He served on the USS Salisbury Sound AV-13 and was assigned to the boat division and also was a gun captain on a 40 mm gun crew. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy as Boatswains Mate 3rd Class in 1954.
Following discharge from the service, Doc began working at C & D Technologies in Attica as a quality technician. He worked at C & D for 39 years retiring January of 1994.
Doc was actively involved in civic and patriotic organizations. He was elected to the Attica School Board and served from 1972 - 1980. He was appointed to the Bi-County Board for Vocational Education. In 1996, Doc was elected to the Attica City Council and service from 1996-2000. He served on the Board of Works for the Council. He also served on the Attica Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board from 1991-1995 along with the Fountain County Board of Alcohol Beverage. He was a 50 year member and Past Master of the Fountain Lodge # 60 F. & A.M. of Covington. A member of the American Legion Post # 52 of Attica. Doc was a member of the Attica Free Methodist Church. He was an avid Purdue sports fan and Green Bay Packer football fan. In his early years he enjoyed hunting.
On May 13, 1952, Doc married Loretta J. VanHook in Attica. Loretta preceded Doc in death on April 22, 2021.
Doc leaves behind a daughter, Pamela Gossett, Morocco, IN and a son, Michael (Kris) Wolfe, Humboldt, TN; three grandchildren, Travis (Laurette) Wolfe, Tyler (Katelyn) Wolfe and Meredith (John) Frank; seven great-grandchildren, Jack, Anneliese, Abigail, Anna Clark, Madeline, Evelyn and John; a special nephew, Brian Stwalley, Williamsport. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosemary Odore, Glenna Dean "Pete" Stwalley and Linda Landon; three brothers, George, Ernest "Bunk" and Floyd "Buck" Wolfe.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of Autumn Trace in Attica and George Ade Memorial Healthcare Center, Brook for their kindness and care given to Doc during his stay.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Tuesday, October 18th from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. with a Masonic Memorial Service beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 1:15 p.m. with Chaplain Rich Stoll officiating. Burial with military rites by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Post # 52 of Attica will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
