Attica - Fredrick "Fred" Lee Roarks, Sr, 83, Attica, passed away in the Franciscan Health East Hospital, Lafayette, on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 5:15 p.m.
Fred was born in Attica, Indiana on June 18, 1940.  He was the son of the late James Ruben and Augusta Nadine (Brandenburg) Roarks.
Fred worked as a truck driver for Tru-Flex and Tru-Built for 25 years.  His outside interests included fishing, bowling, gardening, rooting for the Chicago Cubs, listening to country music and working on small engines. He was also known for his fondness of cats.
Fred served his country and enlisted in the Indiana National Guard and later was activated to the U.S. Army which he was honorably discharged in 1981 and had attained the rank of SP4.  He went on to serve in the Army reserves for 15 years.  After his service he joined the American Legion Post # 259 of Williamsport and served as Commander for the Legion.
Fred married Amelia V. Sowers on November 1, 1958 in the Williamsport Christian Church by Pastor Doug Dickey.
Fred leaves behind his wife, Amelia along with eight children, Augusta L. (Bill) Golding, Pensacola, FL; Virginia Wilkerson, Otterbein; Gail L. Roarks, Cantonment, FL; Lucy J. (Joe) Perkins, Otterbein; Fred L. (Dort) Roarks Jr., Williamsport; Raymond L. (Dorinda) Roarks, Oxford; Danielle (Kenny) Woodruff, Pensacola, FL and Kimberly (Chris) Stanifer, Lafayette; 22 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren; a sister Ann Howard, Williamsport.  He was preceded in death by three sisters, Rita Crowder, Lucy Pettery and Pearl Butler along with three brothers, Junior Roarks, Raymond Sible and Ralph Roarks.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Wednesday, June 19th, from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor David Adams officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
