Attica - Gary Lee “Snake” Simmons, 71, of Attica, passed away at his home, following his battle with liver and lung cancer, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
Gary was born in Williamsport, Indiana on June 5, 1955. He was the son of the late William Vetchel Simmons and Naomi Ruth (Poynter) Bennett. He was a life resident of Attica, attending Attica High School. He worked as a drywall finisher with Poynter Drywall Company in Attica. He served in the Indiana National Guard. 

Gary was a member of the Moose Lodge # 1482 and the V.F.W. Post # 3318, serving with the honor guard. He loved his pet dogs and was quite the jokester. He enjoyed working in his garden and building items at home. He was a proud and avid I.U. fan. 

Gary leaves behind his companion, Mary Cripe, Attica; his two daughters, Nichole Lawhorn, Veedersburg and Kayla (Dayne) Tribby, Cobb, CA; eleven grandchildren, Taylor (Bryce) Lawhorn, Trey (fiancée-Hannah) Lawhorn, Hanna Lawhorn, Hattie Lawhorn, Braden Bainbridge, Hannah Tribby, Abigail Tribby, Layne Tribby, Dustin Tribby, Noah Simmons and Sherry Lou Simmons; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey Wolf, Quinton Wolf and Claire Wolf; two bonus grandchildren, Gage and Caspen Cripe; two sisters, Mattie McDaniel, Attica and Lynn (Don) Randolph, Locust Grove, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Michael William Simmons; a sister, Joan Crawford and a brother, Terry Simmons. As per Gary’s request, cremation services were accorded him and a Celebration of Gary’s life will be held in the Moose Lodge in Attica on Sunday, September 27th, at 2:00 p.m.
