Gary Andrew Stoll, Jr., 63, of South Lyon, Michigan, formerly of Attica, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021 while under hospice care at the home of his brother Rich (and Ruth) Stoll in Valparaiso.
He was born at LSU hospital in New Orleans, LA on May 11, 1958 to Gary Andrew Stoll, Sr. and Judith (Johnson) Stoll Stetler. Gary graduated from Attica High School in 1976 and went on to Purdue University in West Lafayette where he earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also served as student manager for the Purdue Boilermakers men's basketball team under coach Fred Schaus. After college he worked 4 years as an engineer for Chrysler in Detroit, Michigan. Later (from 1986 to 2021) Gary served as engineer for the City of Detroit at Great Lakes Water Authority where he was regarded as an engineering genius, fully committed to providing the Detroit metro area with quality water and sewage service. During his battle with cancer, his beloved colleagues showered him with love and praised him for his outstanding work ethic and his cooperative spirit. Gary said that what he liked most was that he got to "work together with some of the most bright and talented people to get the job done right". Gary was an intelligent and accomplished engineer, admired not only for his brilliance but likewise for his kind demeanor.
Gary was a believer in Jesus Christ, committed to the Roman Catholic Church where he was baptized and confirmed and in which he served as lector and Eucharistic minister. He faithfully attended the St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Lyon, MI. His home church as a child was St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica. Gary's Christian beliefs gave him a firm foundation and peace throughout his end of life journey. His faith was displayed on a daily basis and it sustained him throughout his trials including his courageous battle with cancer.
Gary was a very kind, considerate, generous and loving family member, friend and co-worker. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Gary is survived by his brothers Mike Stoll (companion Kathy Andrews) of Attica, Rich (Ruth) Stoll of Valparaiso, Patrick "PJ"(Susan) Stoll of Attica, Chris Stoll of San Francisco CA, sister Suzy Stoll of Chicago IL and stepbrother B. Keith Stetler of Lafayette, IN. He is also survived by 11 neices and nephews including: Dawn (Ed) Geisler, Dustin (Amy) Slinker, Ryan (Sarah) Stetler, Andy (Joani) Stetler, Lindsey Tillotson, Leah (Jared) Hamilton, Savannah (Chris) Coleman, Bethany (Matthew) Kolb, Jackson Stoll and Carly Stoll and Evan Kleckner. Gary was preceded in death by his father Gary Stoll, Sr., mother Judy Stoll Stetler, step father Paul Stetler, stepmother Jo Beth Stoll, stepsister Diane Slinker, step brother James Stetler and neice Natasha Kimberling.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, November 12th from 6 to 8 pm. Catholic rosary prayer will be held at 5:30 pm. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, November 13th at 10 am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica with Father David Rasner officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Attica.
