George Edward "Ed" Curtis 83, passed away peacefully in Naples, FL on December 29, 2025. Ed will be remembered for his love of the Lord, his unwavering love of his wife and family, loyalty to friends, and his quick wit and sense of humor that he carried with him throughout his life.
Ed was born the youngest of five children on October 23, 1942 to Lola and Roy Curtis of Wichita, KS. Ed was raised in Danville, IL and graduated from Danville High School in 1960.
Ed attended Indiana University where he played the cornet in the Indiana University Marching Hundred. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity where he made many life-long friends. Bloomington was where he met the love of his life Suzanne Harrison. He declared to her on their first date that he would marry her, and they were married the summer after his graduation in August of 1964.
Ed and Susie made their life together in Attica, IN where Ed went to work for Harrison Steel Castings Company. Ed started his career in the Purchasing Department and retired as President of Harrison Steel. Ed became involved in The Steel Founders Society of America where he joined the Board (1991-1993). He later went on to join the Executive Committee (2001-2007), served as Vice President, President and eventually Awarded the Frederick A. Lorenz Medal in 2006. Ed was on the Board of Directors of Central National Bank for forty years and was involved in many activities surrounding his children's interests. Ed and Susie happily retired to Sanibel Island in 2007.
Ed and Susie spent their summers on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver, Indiana graciously sharing their home with family and friends. Ed was involved in every way possible where he could add value to the Culver/Lake Maxinkuckee Community and The Culver Academies. He served on the Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Fund, and was Chairman of the Culver Academies Parent Association. Ed remained a supporter of Culver Academy throughout his life as he watched four of his five grandchildren attend and graduate.
Ed was a member of the Attica United Methodist Church, The Rock Church of Danville, IL, the Sanibel Community Church, and Heartfire Church in Culver. He was a supporter of several Christian charities and causes, most notably Way of Truth Ministries, Inc.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Suzanne Harrison Curtis, parents Roy and Lola Curtis, two sisters Virginia Flinn and Donnie Catron, brother RC Curtis and brother-in-law and business partner, Wade (Rusty) Harrison II.
Ed is survived by his three children Geoff (Angie) Curtis of Lafayette, IN; Trevor (Amy) Curtis of Attica, IN and Jill Suzanne Curtis of Deep River, CT.
Lovingly known as "Poppy" to his grandchildren, Ed is survived by Samuel Harrison Curtis, Geoffrey Maxwell Curtis, Edward Harrison Curtis, Henry Ferguson Curtis, and Anne Elizabeth Curtis. One sister, Mary Jane Holloway of Elkhart, IN as well as his sister-in-law, Ann Harrison of Attica, IN. The family would like to express a special thank you to Ed's loving care givers who became like family the past several years.
There will be a family burial at the Washington Cemetery in Culver, Indiana on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 2:00 PM. In true Ed fashion there will be a Celebration of Life planned for Sunday, May 10, 2026 at the Maxinkuckee Country Club, 1641 East Shore Drive, Culver, IN from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
