Pine Village - Hubert J. "Shack" Shackleton, 83, formerly of Pine Village and recently residing at University Place in West Lafayette, IN, passed away in the Franciscan Health East Hospital, Lafayette on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 4:10 a.m.

Shack, as he was known by family and friends, was born in Joliet, Illinois on December 23, 1938. He was the son of the late Hubert B. and Beatrice Louise (McCowan) Shackleton. Shack grew up in on the farm near Pine Village and was the Valedictorian of his 1957 graduating class of Pine Village High School. He graduated from Purdue University in 1961 with a B.S. in Agronomy and was named outstanding senior in the School of Agriculture. While at Purdue University, Shack pledged FarmHouse Fraternity. Following graduation from Purdue, Shack taught science at the Williamsport High School for two years, then farmed in Adams Township in Warren County until his retirement.

Shack was a member and Past President of the Parish Council of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica. He was also a member and officer in the William Henry Harrison Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.  He was honored to serve as a Warren County Torch Bearer in the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay in 2016.

Shack was also an active member in the Warren County community.  Shack was a 34-year member and Past President of the Attica-Williamsport Rotary Club, where he received Rotary's Paul Harris Fellow award for his contribution to the club. He was a 38-year-member and Past President of the Board of Directors for Williamsport's Community Hospital (later Ascension St. Vincent Hospital). Shack was a former member and President of the Warren County 4-H Fair Board and instrumental in erecting the Horse Barn. Shack also served on the Board of the Metropolitan School District of Warren County from 1974-1980. He also served on the boards of the:  Area IV Agency on Aging; Valley Oaks Health; and the Fountain-Warren County Farm Bureau Coop.

On August 26, 1961, Shack married Wilma Knoop in the St. Marks Catholic Church in Gary Indiana. They have been married for 61 years and enjoyed wintering in Ft. Myers Beach, FL.

Besides his wife, Wilma of 61years, he leaves behind three daughters, Mary Eileen Shackleton, West New York, NJ; Julia Ann (Dave) Fowler, Asheboro, NC, and Dr. Kristine Louise (Derek) Lineberry, Silverdale, WA; a sister, Suzann L. Shackleton, West Lafayette; and five grandchildren, Mara, Mart, and Emma Fowler; Camille and Michael Lineberry.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, October 14th, from 5:00 - 8 p.m. with a Rosary Service being recited on Friday at 4:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Saturday, October 15th at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. David Rasner officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Attica.
