Jim was born on March 12, 1933 in Dowagiac, Michigan. He was the son of the late Abner and Celeste (Adkins) Harger.   He grew up in Oklahoma and Texas and started working at a young age picking cotton.  He served in the US Army from 1953-1955.  Following his service, he moved to Indiana. Jim was a cowboy at heart, never to be without his cowboy boots.  He loved to watch westerns and his favorite actor was Gene Autry.  He loved puzzles and games; especially card games, Bingo or buying lottery tickets.  He loved to read the newspaper.  He was a devoted family man and never missed attending his grandchildren's events.
