Attica - Jerry Jon Heeter Jr., 64, Attica, passed away in the Williamsport Health & Rehabilitation Center on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 2:35 a.m.
Jerry was born in Lafayette, Indiana on February 15, 1959. He was the son of Jerry Jon Heeter Sr. of Attica and the late Elizabeth Belle (Doyle) Heeter. He was a life resident of Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1977. He went on to school in Ohio where he received a certificate in meat cutting. After school he began working at Layton's Star Market and later the Food Basket in Williamsport in the meat department. He later worked at Flex 'N Gate in Veedersburg as a fork lift operator. He transferred to Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica where he worked as a press operator until his retirement.
Jerry worked on the Attica Auxiliary Police Department, retiring as Captain of the Attica Auxiliary Police Department serving for 30 years with the department. He enjoyed vacationing with family and often bragged about the trips to Hawaii that he vacationed with his family and visiting all the islands. He enjoyed the outdoors where he liked to hunt and fish with his father at Racoon Lake. He was an avid gun collector. He enjoyed the time spent with friends having breakfast and then going out shooting pistols and rifles in the country. He was especially proud of his two great nephews and enjoyed the time spent at the movies with his great nephew, Alexander. He was very proud of his achievement in saving a young man from a house fire while on duty with the police department.
On April 28, 2007, Jerry married Cathy L. Taylor in Attica.
He leaves behind his wife, Cathy of 16 years in Attica. Also surviving are his father and step mother, Jerry and Geraldine "Dean" Heeter Sr., of Attica; a niece, who was treated just like a sister to Jerry, Nicole (Rusty) Derhammer, Avon, IN; two great-nephews, Alexander and Zavier Derhammer, both of Avon, IN. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Belle Heeter and a sister, Christene Worley.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Thursday, March 16th, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica Auxiliary Police Department.
