Sun City Center, FL - Jerry Wayne Potter, 87, of Sun City Center, Florida, and formerly of Parke, Fountain and Montgomery counties, passed away on July 1, 2025 in the Sun City Hospice House in Ruskin, Florida.
Jerry was born in Danville, IL on June 15, 1938. He was the son of the late Clarence Elijah and Elma Leona (Hilleary) Potter. He was raised in Danville, IL and later moved to Newtown where he graduated from Richland Township High School in 1956. He later moved to Marshall, IN where he worked until entering the U.S. Army in 1961. He served during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany. At the time of his honorable discharge, he had attained the rank of Private First Class. He later lived in Wingate and Crawfordsville, before retiring in Sun City Center in 2004.
While living in Indiana, Jerry worked as a field supervisor for DeKalb Seed in Crawfordsville. He worked for DeKalb for 25 years before retiring. After retiring he worked for Fuji Films in Crawfordsville for a short time until his move to Florida.
Jerry enjoyed traveling and while in Florida he would ride his bike. He was a quiet kind of guy, but once you got to know him he would come out of his shell and be a friend. More recently he enjoyed his Bible study group on Tuesdays.
Jerry leaves behind his brother, Hugh (Marilyn) Potter, Danville, IN; three nieces, Donna Perry and Dianna Mitchell, both of Covington; Doris (Brian) Burgess, Caledonia, MI; a nephew, Brant Potter, Columbus, IN; several great-nieces and nephews great great-nieces and nephews and and a great great great-niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Martha Potter; a nephew and a great-nephew.
A private family gravesite service for Jerry will be held in the Johnson Cemetery, Danville, IL on Saturday, July 12th, at 1:00 p.m. EST with Pastor Joey Emrick officiating.
