Attica - John Arthur Crawford, 76, Attica, passed away at his residence, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 9:45 a.m.
John was born in Gilman, Illinois on June 9, 1945. He was the son of the late William and Eleanor (Strawn) Crawford. John was raised in Gilman and received his degree from Gilman High School. He later moved to Attica in the 90's.
John made a career in the U.S. Army. He served as a communication equipment installer for then Army. At the time of his honorable discharge, he had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had served during the Viet Nam War. He retired from the service in 1990.
Following the service, John worked at Master Guard in Veedersburg and later with Radio Material Corp. in Attica.
John attended the Attica Christian Church. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans; member of the American Legion Post # 52 of Attica; member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
John leaves behind a son, James Crawford, Lansing, MI; a nephew and niece, Todd & Lisa Crawford, Palm Coast, FL; a sister Barbara Wait, Springfield, MO. He was preceded in death by a son, David Lee Crawford; four brothers, William Gordon Crawford, Harry David Crawford, Alan Leon Crawford and Richard Crawford; four sisters, Joyce Perdue, Nancy Lee Chartier, Donna White and JoAnn Ledbetter.
Friends will be received at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Monday, April 18th, from 5:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Paul Stamm officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be held in the VA National Cemetery, Danville, IL on Monday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. EDT by the American Legion Post # 52 and V.F.W. Post # 3318 of Attica.
