Crawfordsville - John Michael York, 68, Crawfordsville and formerly of the Kingman area, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 2:58 p.m. in the Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis from complications with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
John was born in Clinton, Indiana on February 7, 1953. He was the son of James Russell York of Rockville and the late Fae Ilene (Williamson) York. John was raised in the Kingman area and graduate from Fountain Central High School in 1972. He had lived in Williamsport and as a result of his work, later lived in South Carolina and Georgia for many years until moving to Crawfordsville 5 years ago.
John worked in supervision in the Power Module Division of Caterpillar. He later transferred to plants in South Carolina and Georgia before retiring in June of 2015.
John enjoyed fishing. He had a great passion for tractor pulling and owned his own tractor and competed for many years in tractor pulls. He enjoyed people and helping them when needed. He formerly bowled in leagues and played in men's softball games. He enjoyed working on cars, a talent that he learned from his father, while working with him at the York East End Station in Kingman. John was very fit and kept in shape until the fibrosis caused his health to decline. He was an avid wrestling fan and enjoyed time spent with his family. He had a great love for this country and was very patriotic.
On June 30, 1973, John married Dianne L. Moody in the Williamsport Christian Church.
He leaves behind his wife, Dianne of soon-to-be 48 years along with his father Russell York, of Rockville; two daughters, Stefanie York, Covington and April York, Orlando, FL; two grandsons, Quenton and Parker York, both of Crawfordsville; a brother, Jim (Kathy) York, Veedersburg and a sister, Tina York, Napoleon, OH; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Fae Ilene York; a brother, Robert York and a sister, Ilene Albright.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, June 11th, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, attn: Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
