Joseph "Joe" Donald Stingle, 96, of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, passed away at his home on March 15, 2020. Joe was born in Pine Village, Indiana on April 3, 1923.
Joe's proudest accomplishment was his service in the Navy for close to three years during World War II. He was aboard ship for most of his Naval career receiving: American Theatre Meal, European African, M.E. Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal (2 stars) and the World War II Victory Medal.
After his time in the service, he married Alice Harris, who preceded him in death on August 26, 2008. They were married on February 12, 1946 and moved to rural Warren County to raise their family. Joe loved farming in the early years and had his own Hauling and Excavating business. He lived on Pine Creek most of his life, until retiring to Ft. Myers, Florida in 1993. Joe and Alice moved to Owens Cross Roads, Alabama in 2006 to be near family.
Joe and Alice loved to travel with family and friends. Hawaii was one of their favorites. They took many cross country trips in their motor home, stopping to visit friends along the way. When not traveling, Joe loved playing cards, Euchre foremost.
He is survived by four daughters, Lee Pittman, Lin Shabinaw, Theresa Ravaglia and Dawn Norkus. Also survived by seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
A military gravesite service will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. noon at Mound Cemetery in Pine Village, Indiana.
