Independence - Judith “Judy” Ann (Waymire) Newnum, 86, formerly of Independence, passed away in Autumn Trace, Attica, on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 10:40 p.m.
Judy was born at home in Independence, Indiana on January 7, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Paul Labon and Helen Bernice (Brown) Waymire. Judy was a life resident of Independence where she attended Independence and Winthrop schools, before graduating from Pine Village High School in 1957. Judy has lived all of her life in Independence until just recently moving to Autumn Trace in Attica. Judy was a stay-at -home mom to her two daughters, Sheri and Kelly. She was an active member of the River Springs Church in Independence, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years and also played the piano on certain occasions. Whenever the doors of the church were open, you could probably find Judy working in some capacity in the church. She enjoyed raising a flower and vegetable garden. She was a good seamstress and cook and she was always doting over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was “Do-Dah” to them and was always at their activities. She and her husband Pete always enjoyed traveling around in their Lincoln Continental. On October 5, 1975, Judy married Harry Russell “Pete” Newnum in the former Riverview United Methodist Church. Pete preceded Judy in death on December 2, 2021. They spent 46 years together. She leaves behind two daughters, Sheri (Dave) Brown and Kelly (Tony Jordan) Beedle, both of Williamsport; a step daughter, Kristie (Bruce) Richard, Fillmore, IN; six grandchildren, Tonya (Ryan) DePugh, Ashley (Tony) Robinson; Chris (Cinthya) Brown, Emily Cole ( Reid Billieu); Katlyn (Irvin) Rector and Brandon (Lexi) Rector; eleven great-grandchildren, Aydin, Gabe, Holtyn, Louie, Isabella, Natalia, Wesley, Gwen, Beckham and twins Nash & Finley. She was preceded in death by her brother, Russell Dean Waymire and her parents. A private family gravesite service will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica, with her grandson, Chris Brown and Pastor Dan Jordan speaking.
