Attica - Judith "Judy" Ora Belle (Johnson) Stoll Stetler, 82, Attica, passed away in the Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 6:45 p.m.
Judy was born on August 7, 1938 in Detroit, MI to the late Harry T. and Marcella I. (Kimbrough) Johnson. At the age of 8, her family moved to Princeton, IN, where she graduated from Princeton High School in 1956. In 1957, Judy married Gary Stoll in Princeton and they later moved to New Orleans while he attended Tulane University. After the couple relocated to Attica in 1960, they later divorced and Judy married Paul J. Stetler on September 14, 1968. Paul preceded Judy in death on December 24, 1999.
Judy was the consummate, devoted mother of 4 sons, as well as 2 stepsons and a stepdaughter from Paul, whom all initially lived in the circa 1868 Italianate 2-story frame house in Attica, which they renovated over future years.
While married to Paul, and after his death, Judy had acquired maintenance savvy to repair the furnace, appliances, plumbing fixtures and simply "fixing things that need fixing". She was also a fine dancer and Frank Sinatra enthusiast, expert seamstress, furniture upholsterer, antiques refinisher, interior decorator, former real estate agent, banker's administrative assistant-plus avid gardener and seasoned cook/baker with recipes applied from ancestors collected over the years.
She was a stalwart sports parent, fan and contributor-e.g., thru all levels of baseball - little league, babe ruth, high school, college and even pros. Oh yes, she was a huge Cubs fan and steady IU, Purdue and Michigan fan - judiciously supporting her sons' alma maters.
Judy was a supporter of the Attica Public Library and was a voracious fiction reader; member of the Tri Kappa Sorority and other community and philanthropic organizations in greater Attica/Williamsport.
Preceding her in death, other than Paul and parents, are 2 brothers, H. Thomas and John C. Johnson; former husband, Gary Stoll; a granddaughter, NaTasha L. Kimberling; a stepdaughter, Diane Slinker and a stepson, James Stetler.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, four sons, Gary Stoll, Jr., Detroit, MI; Michael (companion-Kathy Andrews) Stoll and Patrick J. "P.J. (Susan) Stoll, both of Attica and Pastor/Chaplain Richard "Rich" (Ruth) Stoll, Valparaiso, IN; a stepson, B. Keith Stetler, Lafayette; ten grandchildren, Dawn (Ed) Geisler, Dustin (Amy) Slinker, Ryan (Sarah) Stetler, Andy (Joani) Stetler, Lindsey (Brandon) Tillotson, Leah (Jared) Stoll, Savannah (Chris) Coleman, Bethany (Matthew) Kolb, Jackson Stoll and Carly Stoll; sixteen great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Saturday, April 17th, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, April 18th, at 1:00 p.m. with Judy's son, Pastor Rich Stoll officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Attica. The family asks that all people attending either the visitation or funeral services recommend that they wear masks for the safety of all.
