West Lafayette - Larry Eugene Byers, 75, formerly of Pine Village and had been residing in West Lafayette, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 4:26 p.m. with his family by his side following an illness with cancer.
Larry was born in Williamsport, Indiana on August 6, 1946. He was the son of the late William Byers and Elizabeth (Bisel) Gerrity. Larry was raised in Pine Village and graduated from Pine Village High School in 1964. He played on the varsity basketball team for the Pine Knots. Larry later graduated from Ball State University with a BS degree in Education in 1971 followed by a Masters Degree in 1975. Larry loved teaching elementary education at the Vinton Elementary School in Lafayette for 33 years. He also served as their basketball coach for his entire tenure at Vinton Elementary School. Also during his teaching career Larry joined his twin brother, Terry in forming the B & B Lawn Service which they successfully ran for 45 years until Larry's illness this year.
Larry attended the Pine Village United Methodist Church. He loved his sports and coaching youths along with his mowing service.
On October 17, 1965, Larry married Phyllis L. Hollis in the Armstrong Chapel Church near Green Hill.
Larry leaves behind his wife, Phyllis of 56 years along with a son, Brandon Byers, Lafayette; his twin brother, Terry (Peggy) Byers, Pine Village and a sister, Becky (Jim) Blinn, Pine Village; three nieces, Jamie (Edward) Barillas; Melody (Jon) Layton and Misty (Jeff) Brummet; a nephew, Aaron (Angie) Byers.
As per Larry's wish a private family gravesite service will be held in the Pine Village Cemetery, Pine Village, IN.
